Pedal Board Setup For Sax and Flute

I usually use separate mics for my sax and flute. I use a wireless AMT Roam Elite for my sax, and then typically an SM57 for my flute. I connect these to a Radial A-B footswitch, then go into my VoiceLive2 effects box, then off to the mains.

I have wanted to add wireless in-ear monitors to my system for the last two years, but didn’t want to add the complexity to my setup. I finally bit the bullet and ordered both the wireless in-ears and a Furman SPB-8C pedal board. My hope was that I could pack everything together on the board, then just hook up to power and the mains once I got to the gig.

Below are various photos of the setup as I was building it, along with a rough schematic. A couple of things to note. First, the Furman has four conditioned AC outlet and eight 9V outlets. Only problem is that everything I was hooking up uses 12V, thus I have to use the wall warts plugged into AC. I still hope to talk to Furman to see if they offer any kind of 12V adapter. Second, The VoiceLive2 is awfully heavy, and I’d recommend you add foam to the inside of the Furman cover just to make sure the VoiceLive2 doesn’t come loose from the Velcro attachment during transport.

As far as gig playing, though, the setup is working great! It pretty much is just plug and play, so setup is very fast. I also figured out how to use the Furman patch panel to both pass my signal out (via the in-ear transmitter box) and to pass in a main monitor mix into the Furman patch (and on to my in-ear transmitter box) so that I get a nice mix of the mains and myself in my in-ears. I’ll do another article on my in-ears in the future, but suffice to say they are fantastic!

Best of luck with your live rig setups, and let me know what you think of mine!
